Physical Therapy for Pelvic Pain

Pelvic pain is pain in or around the pelvis. Dr. Esther calls it “Discomfort in or around your underwear.”

This can include, but is not limited to, pain with sex, lack of sexual stimulation/sensation deficits, erectile dysfunction, penile/testicular pain, rectal pain, ovarian pain, prostate cancer related dysfunctions, hysterectomy related dysfunctions, or discomfort associated with cosmetic surgical procedures such as liposuction, tummy tuck, etc. This also includes, but is not limited to, pain and restrictions related to endometriosis, fibroids, heavy menstrual cycles, fertility treatments, implants, or pain/anxiety associated with sexual activity. Chronic constipation and bladder issues can also be a driving force for pelvic pain.

This is such a sensitive topic and area that not many people want to discuss openly, but at The Pelvic Place Physical Therapy, we know how impactful dysfunctions in this area can be on your social life, intimate life, and mental health. While others can empathize over ankle pain or headaches, it doesn’t quite translate when the concern is “My vagina hurts,” “My penis/scrotum hurts,” or “I can’t sit or focus for too long because my insides hurt.” These are the concerns we hear about and treat daily. Dr. Esther Amagoh has successfully treated the most minor cases of pelvic pain to severe chronic pain that has persisted for decades. While surgery and medications are mainstream options, pelvic physical therapy is the only option with no side effects that assesses your individual concerns while integrating your daily activities, muscle function, and psychological responses.

The Pelvic Place Physical Therapy utilizes the most advanced yet non-invasive treatment options to expedite healing and promote optimal function. The initial pain free evaluation includes a thorough consultation to establish your needs. It consists of an internal and/or external pelvic floor exam and includes treatments to strengthen or relax the target muscles. The treatments are pain-free and can include patient education, manual therapy, neuromuscular re-education, EMG biofeedback, laser therapy, ultrasound therapy, pelvic floor dilators/trainers, dry needling/acupuncture, electrical stimulation, and more to ensure that you reach your goals. We have life size pelvic display models in every treatment room and offer the latest research based educational exercises. We want to empower you on this journey of controlling your body and not letting your body control you. Let’s start today!
